Board Profiles

Auckland Regional Holdings has an experienced board of directors with a strong balance of commercial and local government experience.

Judith Bassett QSO, MA, LLB(Hons)
Chair

Judith is a third-term ARC councillor and has chaired ARH since its inception in July 2004. Judith recently retired from the University of Auckland where she was a senior lecturer in history. Judith is a former chair of the ASB Trusts and Auckland Area Health Board as well as an ASB Bank director from 1988 to 2000. In her 14 years as chair of ASB Trusts, Judith oversaw the development of a diversified, disciplined investment policy that doubled the Trusts' assets while maintaining their ability to function as reliable, long-term funders of significant projects in the Auckland-Northland region. Judith is a trustee of the Auckland City Library Heritage Trust.



Dr Joce Jesson Ph.D, MA (Hons), Dip Guid, Dip.H.Sc, Dip. Tchg
Deputy Chair

Joce is principal lecturer in Critical Studies in Education at the University of Auckland, Faculty of Education. She has held a wide range of teaching and management roles across the full range of education levels from schools to tertiary. She is currently also on the board of Ako Aotearoa, the National Centre for Tertiary Teaching Excellence. Joce is an executive member of a national union and was a former director of Infrastructure Auckland.



Emmet Hobbs BA (Political Science)
Director

Emmet Hobbs is currently a director of Ports of Auckland Limited and Mainfreight Limited (a listed logistics company), chairman of New Zealand Rental Group Limited (owner of Hirepool) and Smart Environmental Limited. He acts as a facilitator for the University of Auckland Business School on executive development programmes. He is also chairman of the advisory board of a private company with interests in agriculture. He was formerly an executive director of Brambles in Australia and Europe and prior to that worked with both Qantas and Australian Airlines as director of freight. He began his business career with the Union Steam Ship Company in 1972 and was a founding director of Pacifica Shipping.



Peter Hubscher MNZM B.TECH (Food Tech.), D.Sc
Director

Peter was managing director of Montana from 1991-2004 when he assumed chairmanship of the company. He was made a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 1998 for his services to the wine industry and in 1999, named Executive of the Year in the Deloitte Management Magazine Top 100 Awards. Peter is a Director of Ports of Auckland Limited, NZ School of Music, New Zealand String Quartet, executive chairman of Te Kairanga Wines Limited and a trustee of Tironui Music Trust.



Kerry Stotter FACA
Director, and Chair of the Assurance and Risk Committee

A KPMG partner for 32 years, Kerry retired from the firm in 1999, subsequently working in directorships, governance advisory and in governance of NGOs (non-governmental organisations). He is currently the chairman of Sea+City Projects Limited. He is also chairman of Waste Disposal Services, a joint venture between Manukau City and Trans Pacific Industries, and Stracon Holdings Limited. Kerry is a trustee of Choirs Aotearoa New Zealand, Tironui Music Trust and a board member of the New Zealand Rugby Players Association. Kerry is also a director of Brimac Limited and Dormac Properties Limited.



Paul Walbran Dip Tch
Director

Paul Walbran is a small-business owner and is in his fifth term as an ARC councillor, having served as ARC deputy chair from 1992-1995. He is chairman of the Regional Strategy and Planning Committee at ARC with responsibilities which include the ARC's regulatory role in Auckland's waterfront redevelopment. Paul has also been actively involved in the progressive improvement in the health of the Manukau Harbour. He is currently chair of Watercare Services' Environmental Advisory Group and a director of Sea+City Projects Limited.




Management

Peter Casey MBA, PGDip (Acc), Chartered Accountant, Bachelor of Forestry Science (Hons)
Chief Executive Officer

Peter Casey was appointed in July 2004 to lead the set-up of Auckland Regional Holdings. Peter's responsibilities are to develop and implement organisational strategy and recommend business plans, policies and objectives to provide strategic vision, planning and operational leadership. Peter was previously Investments Manager with ARH's predecessor, Infrastructure Auckland, from 1999. Peter has strategic and commercial skills and broad management experience in the investment management, forest products, financial services, transport and industrial chemical sectors. He is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants' (NZICA) National Sustainable Development Reporting Committee. He is a NZICA Annual Reports Awards judge and chairs the NZICA Annual Report Awards Sustainable Development Reporting Panel.


Kellie Maitland MBA, PGDip (Bus Admin), Associate Chartered Accountant
Investments and Finance Manager

Kellie joined ARH as Investments and Finance Manager in 2004. Her primary responsibilities include the operational management of ARH's core investment activities as well as leading and advising on all accounting and finance functions. Prior to Kellie's current role, she was the Finance Manager for Infrastructure Auckland for three years, and previously worked in the chartered accountancy and business advisory sector for 11 and a half years. Kellie has broad experience in asset/investment management, accounting, management and financial reporting, strategic planning, internal controls and systems implementation, IT management, HR services, staff leadership and commercial operations.


Karen Musham BCom, Chartered Accountant
Business Development and Planning Manager

Karen joined ARH as Business Development and Planning Manager in 2006. Her responsibilities include the management of ARH's long-term funding plan, project managing the initiatives to optimise the value of ARH's assets and managing the financing of investments in existing and new equity holdings. Prior to joining ARH, Karen was Strategic Financial Analyst at Carter Holt Harvey Forests for five years, and previously she held a Manager position at Deloitte Corporate Finance. Karen has experience in strategic planning, financial modelling, asset management, project management, business and asset valuations, financial reporting and accounting.


Aimee Comer BCom (Hons), Chartered Accountant
Project Manager

Aimee joined ARH in 2007 and is currently the Project Manager, responsible for managing key projects in relation to ARH's investments that include Ports of Auckland and the Wynyard Precinct investment property. Prior to her commencement at ARH, Aimee was employed by PricewaterhouseCoopers as a Manager in the Corporate Finance team. Aimee has experience in project management, business and share valuations, financial analysis and modelling, company restructuring, mergers and acquisitions and financial due diligence.


Michele Harpham BManStudies(Hons), Chartered Accountant
Senior Financial Accountant

Michele joined Auckland Regional Holdings in 2006. Michele has worked as an auditor for Grant Thornton and in audit and accounting roles for YMCA Training, BBC World Service Trust and BBC Worldwide.


Jeffrey Birse BA/BCom (Hons)
Investments Analyst

Jeffrey has recently completed a Commerce and Arts conjoint degree at the University of Auckland majoring in Finance and Economics.


Jenny Cheng MSc
Executive Analyst

Jenny joined the ARH team in 2008. Her previous roles included a range of administrative and teaching positions.
